How do I get help with a lab report using Elta?
Share the report or the page with your calculations, and ask Elta to talk through the method, the arithmetic, the units and the significant figures. It explains each thing it notices and why, so you can fix the work yourself. You write the final answer; Elta is the study partner.
- Open the report or worksheet and choose Share screen in the Elta side panel.
- Ask: walk through my method, my units and my significant figures, and explain each step.
- Fix whatever Elta points out, in your own words and with your own numbers.
- Ask Elta to look again, then read the final version once more yourself.
What does a significant-figures slip look like?
A calorimetry result is a typical case. The inputs carry two or three significant figures, but the report prints four because the calculator did. The arithmetic is right and the presentation is off, which still costs marks and overstates how precisely anything was measured.
Worked example. A student heats 0.200 kg of water with a measured rise of 3.2 K, using 4.18 kJ/(kg·K). The heat absorbed is 0.200 × 4.18 × 3.2 = 2.6752 kJ. The temperature rise has two significant figures, so the answer should be reported as 2.7 kJ.
Elta would point at the 3.2 K reading and explain that it limits the whole answer, then help you round with confidence.
What can Elta help with in a problem set?
Elta can help you see that the method fits the question, that each formula is applied correctly, that units carry through, that constants match the ones your course uses, and that the final answer is a sensible size. It points to the step where things go sideways and explains why.
- Method: the right equation for the situation, and the assumptions behind it.
- Arithmetic: a second pair of eyes on each step of the working.
- Units: labels and conversion factors in tables and graphs.
- Reasonableness: whether the answer is the right order of magnitude.
Is it okay to use Elta on coursework?
Follow your instructor's policy on AI tools, since rules differ by course. Elta is built to help you understand and improve your own work, not to produce it for you. If a course restricts AI help, ask before you share any graded work with Elta or any other assistant.
Frequently asked questions
Will Elta just give me the answer?
Elta explains its thinking step by step so you can see where a number went off. The work you submit should still be your own, and some courses restrict AI help, so check your policy.
Can Elta read the units in a table or a graph?
Yes. Share the page and Elta reads the units in the table headers, axis labels and calculations, and tells you about any that do not match.
Does Elta know the constants my course uses?
Elta tells you the constants it uses. If your course specifies different values, say so and Elta will use yours.
Can I talk through a problem instead of typing it?
Yes. Elta is voice-first, so you can explain your approach out loud and get a response straight away, the way you would with a classmate.
What can Elta see?
Only what you choose to share: a screen, a window, a tab or an image. You can stop sharing or end a session whenever you like.
Is Elta free to try?
Yes. The Free plan includes Elta and the Voice Agent with 100,000 tokens a day, and no credit card is needed. Upgrade to Plus or Pro whenever you want more room.
